What is your least favorite household chore? Mine would be 100% the laundry. The walking up and down the stairs (#dormlife), the sorting (or lack of), and finally the worst part; putting it all away.
For the past month, I have been trying out SweatXSport's Laundry Detergent and Odor Eliminator spray. I was really excited to try this out since I wear workout clothes, a lot. Between myself and my husband we workout about 4-6 times a week, each.
When we sweat it is not just water and salt that comes outs. It is oils, skin cells, and the residue from your body lotion/sunscreen. The idea of the skin cells was something new to me. The idea that your gear can basically have built up film of old skin cell gives me the hibbie jibbies.
Because of how these smells and stains can be created, your traditional laundry detergent is not up to the task of really getting the smell out. It most likely just covers the smell with a new smell. And as I also found out that the idea of putting your workout gear in the dryer is basically baking the smells in! YIKES!
So what makes SweatXSport different than other brands? Well, first it helps to actually exfoliate the sweat, oils, and skin cells from your clothes. Basically, it is a loofa for your gear. It helps to get lift the things that really make your gear funky.
Not only does it get rid of the smells, but also stains. As a runner, I know that nothing I wear ever comes back the same color. From mud, dirt, grass, and the worst ANY bodily fluids. Yes, bodily fluids. This helps you save that amazing pair of running leggings that just got a giant grass stain on them from falling down a hill.
The biggest game-changer for me is that SweatXSport has helped me finally get the smell out of my heart rate strap. I wear a heart rate strap for EVERY workout. Yes, my Apple Watch has a wrist-based heart rate monitor, but it isn't accurate enough for me. This means I wear something around my chest and 5-6 days a week for up to 2 hours at a time.
I have followed the directions on how to clean and wash it but it still had this smell that once I started to sweat again would come back. After an amazing #BibChat I got the suggestion to try soaking the strap in a mixture of water and detergent. I filled a bowl up with water and half a capful of detergent and soaked it all day. Rinsed and let it air dry. And IT WORKED! It took that smell that had been there for years out!
